Gay Marriage Does Not Affect Birth Rate

First published: 20th July 2007

Barry Chan Ka-yu (Talkback 20th July) asserts, "If there are more gay marriages, fewer children will be born and this could lead to a population crisis." Allowing or disallowing gay marriages will not change people's sexual preferences, so it will have no effect on the birth rate. Or does Barry think that a person who is denied the opportunity of marrying someone they love will choose to marry and have children with someone they are unattracted to?
