No sex please, we are Hongkongers: 18+ Central row shows city needs to grow up

Did Regina Ip Lau Suk-yee, Horace Cheung Kwok-kwan or any of the other people who complained about the “18+ Central” show at the Hong Kong Harbourfront actually visit the show (“Will 18+ Central be the last sex show on Hong Kong’s harbourfront?”, April 8), or did they condemn it in ignorance?
I visited on the evening of April 6, and did not see anything that I would consider incompatible with public morals. There was no more nudity than can be seen on some TVB Pearl dramas, or the Miss Hong Kong pageant, or even a public beach.
Tony Tse Wai-chuen, a member of the Harbourfront Commission, objected on the grounds that, “the harbourfront, as a valuable site, should be enjoyed by all”, but what about the beer and wine events that are similarly only for over-18s? Even more exclusive – the site can be booked for private corporate events. Does he object to those too?
Sex is a normal, healthy human activity and Hong Kong should be sophisticated enough for adult events that focus on it. Far from sophistication, Regina Ip wants to reduce Hong Kong to naivety.
